Your portal's social tool lets you write a post once and send it to every account you have connected - your Facebook Page, Instagram account, YouTube channel, and Pinterest boards (Pinterest support is rolling out soon). This guide covers how to build a post, what media each platform accepts, and how scheduling works.
Start with your accounts
In the post composer, pick any mix of connected accounts for one post. You could send the same announcement to Facebook and Instagram, or to every account you have. As you select platforms, extra fields appear just for them. Select YouTube and you will see a video title, tags, and a playlist option. Select Pinterest and you will see a pin title and a destination link.
Those platform fields only show up when they are needed, so the composer stays simple when you are just posting text and a photo to Facebook.
Media rules
- You can attach up to 4 media items to one post.
- Images are converted to JPEG automatically, so you can upload other formats without worrying about it.
- One post can use video or images, but not both together.
Crop presets: which ratio to pick
The composer includes crop presets so your photos fit each platform. Here is when to use each one:
- 1:1 (square) - the safe default for feed posts on Facebook and Instagram.
- 4:5 (portrait) - the tallest shape Instagram's feed allows, so it fills more of the screen on phones.
- 1.91:1 (wide) - the widest shape Instagram's feed allows, good for landscape shots.
- 9:16 (vertical) - full-screen vertical video and tall Pinterest pins.
- 16:9 (widescreen) - the standard shape for YouTube videos.
Instagram feed images must be JPEG with a ratio between 4:5 and 1.91:1. The portal converts and crops for you, so a preset is usually all you need. You can read more about Instagram's photo rules at the Instagram Help Center.
What each platform needs
- Facebook - the most flexible. Text alone is fine, and so is text with photos or a video.
- Instagram - needs at least one photo or video. A text-only post cannot publish to Instagram.
- YouTube - needs a video. The video title comes from the title field, or from the first line of your post text if you leave the title blank. Your post text becomes the video description, and you can add tags and pick a playlist.
- Pinterest - needs an image. Each pin gets its own title, plus an optional destination link that decides where people go when they click your pin.
Post now or schedule for later
- Write your post text and attach your media.
- Select the accounts you want to publish to.
- Fill in any platform fields that appear, like a YouTube title or a pin's destination link.
- Publish right away, or pick a date and time to schedule the post.
Times are shown in your local timezone, so 9:00 AM means 9:00 AM where you are. Scheduled posts publish within about 5 minutes of the time you set. That small window is normal - if a post has to land at an exact moment, publish it yourself a few minutes early instead of scheduling it.
If a post fails on some accounts
A post going to several accounts is really several separate publishes behind the scenes. One account can fail while the others succeed. If Instagram rejects a post but Facebook accepts it, the Facebook post stays live.
The two most common causes are an expired account connection, which you fix by reconnecting that account, and YouTube's daily upload limit. Once the cause is fixed, publish the post to that account again.
