Social platforms connect to your portal with access tokens, not passwords. Tokens expire, platforms revoke them, and new features sometimes need new permissions. The good news: almost every connection problem is fixed the same way - by reconnecting the account.
What "expired" means
When an account shows as expired in your portal, its access token is no longer valid. That can happen when a token ages out or when the portal's access gets revoked on the platform side. Until you reconnect, the portal cannot post to that account or load its comments and messages.
- Go to the connected accounts list in your portal and find the account marked expired.
- Choose to reconnect it. You will be sent to the platform's official login screen.
- Sign in with the same account you used before.
- Keep every permission, Page, and account checked on the access screens.
- Finish, then check that the account no longer shows as expired.
Why Meta shows the permission screens again
Every time you reconnect Facebook or Instagram, Meta re-shows its permission screens, including the "choose what you allow" step and the asset screens where you pick Pages and Instagram accounts. This is normal. It is Meta double-checking what the portal is allowed to access.
A business Page is missing from Meta's list
Pages owned by a business portfolio only show up on Meta's screens if the person logging in has a page-level role. If your Page is missing, the fix is a role change on Meta's side, not a portal setting.
- Go to business.facebook.com and open Settings, then People.
- Find yourself and assign the missing Pages to you. Full control is recommended.
- Reconnect from the portal. On the asset screens, expand your business portfolio and check its Pages.
- Remember that Instagram accounts appear through their linked Facebook Page, so fixing the Page usually fixes Instagram too.
Meta explains portfolio roles in About business portfolio and business asset permissions. For the full walkthrough, see the Connect Facebook and Instagram article in this help center.
You see a notice asking for new permissions
When new features come to the portal, they sometimes need permissions your original connection never granted. If you see a notice like this, reconnect the account. Going through the platform's login again grants the new permissions, and everything you already had stays in place as long as you keep it all checked.
Removing access from the platform side
You are always in control from the platform side too. You can review or revoke the portal's access at any time:
- Facebook and Instagram: in Facebook, open Settings, then Business integrations
- YouTube: visit your Google account's third-party access page
- Pinterest: open Settings, then Security, then Connected apps
What disconnecting deletes
Disconnecting an account inside the portal deletes its stored access token immediately. The portal never had your password, so there is nothing else to remove. Your posts, comments, and messages stay right where they are on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or Pinterest - disconnecting only removes the portal's access.
Still stuck?
If reconnecting does not clear the problem, reach out through the contact form. Tell Travis which account is having trouble and what you see on screen. It is a one-person team, so you will hear back as soon as possible, usually within one business day.
